ABOUT

A little bit about me and how I work

Hello, I'm Faye...

My passion for psychology and my commitment to helping people defines a big part of who I am as a person. I feel humbled and grateful to be part of what can be a very important journey in my clients' lives. I knew quite early on in my life that I wanted to pursue a career in a helping profession, and when I began my undergraduate degree in psychology  in Malta, it very quickly became clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in Counselling Psychology.

I completed my practitioner doctorate in Counselling Psychology in Glasgow, where I worked as a trainee with both adults and children presenting with a range of mental health issues. Through training and post-qualifying I have had experience working in the National Health Service (NHS), school settings, and the voluntary sector. This breadth of experience has given me the opportunity to work with numerous professionals, and within different organisational structures.

I have a special interest in the emotional and psychological impact of adverse/traumatic childhood experiences and how it may affect a person's mental health, functioning, and wellbeing in adulthood. I have extensive experience working with people presenting with personality difficulties, complex trauma issues, and unhelpful relationship patterns that have developed as a result of difficulties in childhood.

How I work

We all experience difficulties throughout our lives such as stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief or relationship issues. We each, however, have a unique way of experiencing and dealing with these difficulties. For this reason I endeavour to employ a therapeutic approach that is informed by a variety of evidence-based theories and techniques, but that is ultimately tailored and individualised to each of my clients’ needs. Through providing my clients a safe and compassionate environment I encourage them to realise their inner strengths and abilities, and to use these to move towards where they want to be in life. One of my most important roles in therapy is to foster and empower change, well-being, psychological functioning, and psychological flexibility.

In my practice I use an integrative approach. This means that I integrate different therapeutic tools and approaches depending on my clients' needs and goals for therapy.

The main psychological therapies and techniques that I use are:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Person Centred Therapy (PCT)
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Mindfulness
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Any therapies and/or therapeutic techniques that I use are soundly underpinned by humanistic and person-centred values that ultimately define who I am as a Counselling Psychologist.
